Midori Sour

A good friend introduced me to Midori. It’s a melon liquor with a fruity, highly sweet taste. Once I made my Sour Mix I wanted a fun drink to go with, and I had Midori so I started searching for Midori Sours, like you’d do an amaretto sour? I found about a dozen indvidual recipes and I came up with a mix I liked, and several friends agreed. After tweaking, here’s what we came up with!

Midori Sour

Note: I used a 1.5 oz shot glass for this, but the ratio will stay the same no matter what size unit you use to measure.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 parts Bacardi Gold Rum
  • 1 1/2 parts Midori
  • 2 parts Sour Mix
  • 2 parts ginger ale

Directions:

  1. Mix over ice in a tall (16oz) glass.
  2. Stir.
  3. Enjoy!

As with any of my recipes, I say make it your own. My original was Bacardi Gold Rum, Midori, and diet ginger ale. I’ll be trying it soon with Bacardi 151, and I’ll probably take it to 1 part rum & 2 parts Midori since 151 is stronger flavored. I tried it this weekend with the Bacardi Gold and cherry lime-ade – IT TASTED LIKE A JOLLY RANCHER! A friend prefers vodka and is going to try it that way.

So choose your favorite liquer base (rum, vodka, tequila, etc), and the Midori and Sour Mix, and top it off with your favorite sweet mixer (ginger ale, cherry limeade, sprite, orange or pineapple juice, etc) It’s your party! The sky’s the limit!

Sour Mix (aka Sweet & Sour)

Ingredients (can be halved, doubled, or more to fit your needs!)

  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar (working on a splenda/low cal option, too!)
  • 2 cups lemon juice *see note*

Directions

  1. Bring sugar and water to a boil over medium high heat and boil for 5 minutes.
  2. Cool to room temp.
  3. Add juice.
  4. Pour into a container with a lid (a capped pour spout bottle works great!)
  5. Chill unused portions for several weeks.

Note: If you want a mix for margaritas, try lime. For a great all around mix, try half lemon, half lime. Make it yours!

Simple, Easy, TASTY!

Spiced Cherry

A friend of our’s found a Caribbean spiced rum “with natural cherry & vanilla flavors”, aptly called “Cherry Spiced”. It makes an excellent jello shot with Cherry jello.

Ingredients

  • 1 box  cherry Jello (3 oz box)
  • 1 cup Hot Water
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 3/4 cup cherry spiced rum

Directions

  1. Add jello to hot water in a 1 qt bowl. Stir until dissolved well and slightly cooled.
  2. When slightly cooled, stir in liquors.
  3. Pour into 2 oz “portion cups” (think of the cups you get ranch in at a restaurant) or suck them up into 30-55 cc syringes like The Shot Doctors do!
  4. Refrigerate a minimum 2-4 hours (until set) & serve!

This one is a little milder, because well, fuzzy navels are. The option for Sunny D is to give it that “orange juice’ taste without using orange juice. There are enzymes in orange & pineapple juice that are rumored to prevent packaged jello from setting. I haven;t tried it yet sooooo… use at your own risk?

You can kick it up with 1/4 c rum instead of ice water/juice if you want more kick. You can skip the ice water/juice just add 1 c peach schnapps.  Rule #1 of jello Shots: PLAY WITH IT, BABY!

Ingredients

  • 1 box Orange Jello (3 oz box)
  • 1 cup Hot Water/”orange drink” (something like Sunny D)
  • 1/4 cup ice water or iced “orange drink”
  • 3/4 cup Peach Schnapps

Directions

I love cherry lemonade, it just reminds me of summer, and I am soooo ready for some warm weather! since we want the cherry to come through here, it will be the only mixer.

  • 1 c warm water
  • 1 c cherry rum

Directions

  1. Put one cherry in each shot cup

  3. When cooler stir in alcohols and/or mixers.

  5. Refrigerate a minimum 2-4 hours (until set) & serve!

Watermelon Jolly Ranchers…one of the best 2 flavors in the box! Since Jolly Rancher has assisted by making Jolly Rancher Jello…. and I like my tangy liquors and I’m making quite a few for this party this weekend 🙂 This one isn’t very strong, using a “pucker” for the liquor, but adding a 1/4 of silver rum (Bacardi of course!) helps snazz it up a bit!

Ingredients

  • 1 box of Jolly Rancher Watermelon Jello (3 oz box)
  • 1/2 cup of hot water
  • 1/4 cup of Bacardi Silver rum (or Bacardi watermelon rum
  • 3/4 cup of Watermelon Pucker Liquor

Directions

  1. Add jello to heated liquid in a 1 qt bowl. Stir until dissolved well and slightly cooled.
  2. When slightly cooled stir in alcohols and/or mixers.
  3. Pour into 2 oz “portion cups” (think of the cups you get ranch in at a restaurant) or suck them up into 30-55 cc syringes like The Shot Doctors do!
  4. Refrigerate a minimum 2-4 hours (until set) & serve!
